The Aquila Fitness trend report 2021

Aquila Fitness monitors wellness trends closely to better serve our fitness center management and corporate wellness clients. The years 2020 and 2021 may seem like anomalies that have effected huge changes in those industries, but we see it differently.

The pandemic and its effects have only increased momentum for trends we were already seeing in 2019. Here are just a few examples of wellness and fitness solutions Aquila has been monitoring for years that we expect to continue to grow and evolve in 2022.

Virtual wellness coaching

Aquila consultants have been integrating digital solutions for our clients for more than 25 years. Back in Feburary of 2020, we took a closer look at the future of wellness coaching and recommended virtual visits as a cost-effective and convenient alternative to in-person coaching.

By integrating virtual lifestyle coaching and employer assistance program options into corporate wellness programs, employers in 2022 will be able to increase engagement by providing behavioral and mental health services employees now expect.

Focus on self-care

As part of the mental health challenges with which many employees have struggled in the past two years, work-life balance has moved to a position of top priority.

Finding balance between work life and home life has been difficult for remote workers. Many companies are instituting mandatory “stop work” times and vacation days to reinforce the message that self-care is important for mental health and productivity.

In the quest to keep up with the latest trends that foster greater work-life balance, Aquila reported in June 2019 that self-care trends were poised for a surge in popularity. Paired with new apps and advances in wearables technology and virtual workout options, self-care is here to stay moving into 2022.

Virtual fitness

Aquila consultants have been monitoring the popularity of virtual fitness programming for more than a decade, implementing it whenever it best served fitness or corporate populations. Back in 2018, we recommended that on-demand fitness become part of regular fitness center offerings.

That happened in 2020 in a big way, and these interactive classes aren’t going anywhere, anytime soon. Peleton and Mirror are still big competitors, and the industry continues to grow with the recent addition of Amazon Halo.
